Aggie (AKA The Ag-ster) would be a very easy dog to live with. She is laid back, walks great on a leash, gets along with other dogs, and all human-folk too. She’s very, very intelligent, loves to play when you have time to do so, and would learn anything asked of her.
Aggie has lovely markings, black, white with spots of brown. Her coat is smooth and silky, about 2 inches long so there isn’t a issue with matting. If you want a walking or jogging companion or someone to play with the kids, this is the dog.
Aggie was born in 2000. She weighs 50 pounds, but doesn’t pull on a lead. She’s in great shape and is current on healthcare.
Not to sound jaded, but we at HUA hear all kinds of stories why dogs are no longer wanted.
Aggie’s is that she came into a home as a puppy. We know they played with her because she came to us socialized to humans. But then the novelty of a puppy wore off. She was ushered off to the back yard. They fed her and probably gave her water, but nothing else.
Imagine the emotions that a dog goes through! She used to be the center of attention. Now she might get 5 minutes of attention a day. Aggie probably felt she’d done something wrong!
Since her owners did not have a fence, she roamed the town, looking for someone to love her. She was picked up and brought to the safety and comfort of HUA. We give her all the love we can and she appreciates every second of it.
Aggie’s story is only one reason we screen our applicants so carefully. Bringing a dog into your home is a commitment. A commitment of money, time, and love – not just for a few months, but for a life-time.

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested.
