Colleen
Colleen spent the first 6 years of her life in a puppy mill. She never knew a soft bed, had no space to run and play...she didn't even know what running and playing was about. She only knew imprisonment. She had a mammary tumor from giving birth to litter after litter of puppies and she had a tumor on her shoulder, probably due to poor nutrition. The puppy mills get by with as little vet care and food cost as they can. They often feed food that is high in toxic chemicals and byproducts and low on any nutritional value for the dog. Because of the poor nutrition Colleen also lost 8 teeth. Her pathology reports came back with good news. Both of the tumors are benign. Colleen will live to know love and happiness. She is timid, still recovering. We can tell that she very much wants to know love. She still seems defeated at times, her eyes pleading. But with love, soft blankets, good food, patience and kind voices she will be a little miracle, we just know it.
Colleen was born in April of 2002 and weighs 11.6 pounds. She is a female Pomeranian.
Colleen is so happy that she has a Buddy! Her Buddy, Pat Murphy, from Tuscon, Arizona, sent her this message: "Colleen, you are such a sweet, adorable little girl. I wish all the very best in life for you and make this gift to you in honor of my mother's 85th birthday. Her name is Margaret and she lives in Ord, Nebraska. We both send you hugs and kisses." Colleen sends Pat and Margaret many happy, grateful kisses for their love and support.
Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested.
