Iowa Dogs Rescued from Hideous Conditions 07/29/07 This week Hearts United for Animals, in a joint effort with TLC Canine Center in Newell, Iowa, rescued 15 dogs consisting of Chihuahuas, Boston Terriers, and Boston Terrier mixes from a frightful farmstead in Iowa. The horror of it can barely be described. Dogs hung suspended from the ceiling in solid wire cages while others ran loose on the property because their enclosures had collapsed. They were completely covered in fleas and tape worms. There was no fresh water, no comfort and they had no veterinary care. They were so afraid of humans that they would not come near. It took hours to run through the fields and catch them. The ones who came out of the pens and cages went nearly insane with pure fright of human hands near them. One of the older Chihuahua girls was so afraid of humans that she let out the most blood curdling scream we have ever heard. She screamed over and over again with every ounce of her being until the humans would stop touching her. The dogs are in the process of undergoing medical exams, being cleaned, wormed and taught that humans are going to be kind to them. There was a hideous green swamp on the back of the property and we are afraid that because of this and the lack of veterinary care some may be heartworm positive. Right now all we can do is show them love and affection, and root for them to pull through their hideous ordeal. Most do not know that goodness awaits them, but certainly it does. We will provide them all means necessary to get well both physically and emotionally. The dogs individual photos and pages will be posted as soon as they have had an appropriate amount of time to peacefully rest and recover. It will take time, as these are some of the most physically and emotionally damaged dogs we have ever encountered. Why would anyone perpetrate such acts of cruel neglect toward these beautiful, innocent creatures? The answer is that the dogs were being used for breeding with the pups being sold to local pet stores for $50 to $100. These are the parents of pet store puppies. Please consider a life saving donation to help these 15 beautiful souls in their long road ahead. |
