Homeward Bound - Adopted!

Now living happily in Red Oak, Iowa!

Bedford was born in a puppy mill. One look into his eyes and you know he has a story to tell, and it is not a pretty one. He is an old soul who has seen too much cruelty in the world and he does not forget. But although his life up to this point has been filled with horror, Bedford does not hold it against us. He has forgiven humans. Although he is still a little bit shy, he is finding comfort in the arms of the staff and volunteers and has decided that he likes laps very much. Bedford does not ask much of us, just some kind words, a sweet kiss, a gentle hug. He is a lovely fellow who so very much deserves the chance to live in a safe, warm home, surrounded by those who will love him and protect him from all things bad for the rest of his days.
Buddy Messages (2)
His Buddy, Mary Ward-Eaton, from Belleville, MI, sent him this message: "Bedford, I love you to pieces from seeing your picture!!! You are one handsome dude! Yes, you have had a very hard life & I am so sorry we can't do away with all puppy mills right now. I try to tell my friends about them but I don't know if anyone listens. My mini-dachshund is from a puppy mill & my condo lets me have one dog. We love each other a lot....we've been together since she was a small thing and she's now sick & I don't know how much longer I'll have her. It is so sad! But a little guy like you cheers me up because I already love you and would adopt you if I could - our timing is off. If I fell in love with you, I know other people will very fast and you'll have your own forever home soon! Until then, keep sitting in those laps and let good people love you. One day you'll want to show everyone that personality you are hiding inside - I envy the lucky people who get to find it!" Bedford sends Mary and her sweet mini-doxie girl many grateful kisses, very happy tail wags and lots of loving hugs!
His Buddies, Jason and Rochelle Paine, from Lincoln, NE, sent him this message: "Bedford, we LOVE cuddling with you on volunteer days, and we want everyone to know what a wonderful little guy you are! You'll be a great family member, and we hope your new people find you soon!" Bedford can't wait to see Jason and Rochelle again, and sends them kisses and cuddles until then!

Thanks for Visiting Our Animals!

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested. If you are interested in adopting a dog, we can give you more information on each dog if you click the Adoption Info & Application link above. Buddies are people who support the dog and send them love while they are waiting for their new home. The dog does not live with the buddy.
