Homeward Bound - Adopted!

Now living happily in Pennsylvania

On January 29, 2014, HUA rescued 45 dogs from a puppy mill in South Dakota. Some of the dogs went to other groups and the majority of them (about 30) came to HUA. HUA has been working with this particular mill on downsizing and we are pleased to announce that this mill is now shut down!

Because of these collaborative efforts, another 45 dogs are now free. Of the group, only 3 of them are males. All others are females. Puppies were also released. A few three-month-old Japanese Chin pups and four six-week-old pups are in the group. What does all this mean? Female dogs are not needed at the mill for breeding because puppies aren't selling. Efforts in educating the public are working and we must continue to let people know about puppy mills and their connection to pet stores, newspaper ads, internet ads, etc.

Madrigal did not escape unscathed, but neither does she suffer from any serious medical ailments. We do administed medication for dry eyes and she is a good girl when she gets her medicine. She is still a little shy when she first meets someone new, but she warms up quite quickly and joins in the fun. She loves spending time outside in the fresh air, romping around with her new friends and savoring this sweet new life.
Buddy Messages (1)
Her Buddy, Teresa Smith, from Ericson, NE, sent her this message: "Sweet Madrigal, I am so happy you were rescued from that horrible puppy mill and have found the angels at HUA to care for you. Your forever family will find you soon and show you what it is like to live in a loving home. I will keep praying for them to find you soon. Your buddy, Teresa" Madrigal sends Teresa oodles of tiny poodle kisses and many loving cuddles!

Thanks for Visiting Our Animals!

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested. If you are interested in adopting a dog, we can give you more information on each dog if you click the Adoption Info & Application link above. Buddies are people who support the dog and send them love while they are waiting for their new home. The dog does not live with the buddy.
