On January 29, 2014, HUA rescued 45 dogs from a puppy mill in South Dakota. Some of the dogs went to other groups and the majority of them (about 30) came to HUA. HUA has been working with this particular mill on downsizing and we are pleased to announce that this mill is now shut down!

Because of these collaborative efforts, another 45 dogs are now free. Of the group, only 3 of them are males. All others are females. Puppies were also released. A few three-month-old Japanese Chin pups and four six-week-old pups are in the group. What does all this mean? Female dogs are not needed at the mill for breeding because puppies aren't selling. Efforts in educating the public are working and we must continue to let people know about puppy mills and their connection to pet stores, newspaper ads, internet ads, etc.

Fiji is just about the cutest thing around. She has the most precious face and expressive ears. Due to the complete lack of dental care while at the puppy mill, she lost 17 teeth, but other than that she is a healthy little bugger. Fiji is a looker and a learner. She is still a little shy about being around new people, but each day she notices something new to like about us. The other small dogs are helping her come around and we think she is quite close to showing us that silly personality we have a hunch is in there.
Buddy Messages (2)
Her Buddy, Karla Hesse, from Lincoln, NE, sent her this message: "My Daughter, Stacy, loves to volunteer any Saturday she can at HUA. I will ask her to give you hugs from me. May you be blessed with a loving family soon." Fiji sends Karla many happy kisses and very happy tail wags!
Her Buddy, Linda Pfluger, from Downers Grove, IL, sent her this message: "Hello Fiji, we are so happy that you are now at HUA where you will be loved and cared for. You are an adorable girl and we know it will not be long before you find your forever home. Bubba, Dixie, Tina and Skipper send you much love and kisses." Sweet little Fiji sends Bubba, Dixie, Tina and Skipper many grateful puppy kisses and sends Linda shy, happy smiles and many cuddly hugs!

Thanks for Visiting Our Animals!

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested. If you are interested in adopting a dog, we can give you more information on each dog if you click the Adoption Info & Application link above. Buddies are people who support the dog and send them love while they are waiting for their new home. The dog does not live with the buddy.
