Homeward bound-adopted!

Now living happily in Edgewood, MD

On January 29, 2014, HUA rescued 45 dogs from a puppy mill in South Dakota. Some of the dogs went to other groups and the majority of them (about 30) came to HUA. HUA has been working with this particular mill on downsizing and we are pleased to announce that this mill is now shut down!

Because of these collaborative efforts, another 45 dogs are now free. Of the group, only 3 of them are males. All others are females. Puppies were also released. A few three-month-old Japanese Chin pups and four six-week-old pups are in the group. What does all this mean? Female dogs are not needed at the mill for breeding because puppies aren't selling. Efforts in educating the public are working and we must continue to let people know about puppy mills and their connection to pet stores, newspaper ads, internet ads, etc.

Sarette is another one of our Dakota Darlings. Since being rescued, she has lived each and every day as if it is her last. She is overjoyed at every new thing. She wants to cuddle AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE and never lets a person slip through without excited greetings and crazy tail wagging. Being outside is a glorious event for Sarette. She just cannot get over her good fortune. She adores playing with the other small dogs and is nice enough to show the shy ones how to live. She is the sweetest thing and will be over the moon once she is finally in her very own home.
Buddy Messages (1)
Her Buddy, Mary Phillips, from Austin, TX, sent her this message: ""Hi Sarette! You are cute as a button, and it sounds like you have a heart of gold. You will be a great addition to a lucky family. Sending you lots of hugs and kisses from Texas." Sarette sends Mary TONS of happy kisses, crazy cuddles and zippy tail wags!

Thanks for Visiting Our Animals!

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested. If you are interested in adopting a dog, we can give you more information on each dog if you click the Adoption Info & Application link above. Buddies are people who support the dog and send them love while they are waiting for their new home. The dog does not live with the buddy.
