Henry Knox Featured

be my buddy
Pomeranian
Born: 01/01/2007
Tiny
6 lbs
Male

In July 2012, a sheriff of a small town in South Dakota called one of our directors, Julie, about 30 Pomeranians who were starving with no water. They were living in a patch of noxious weeds taller than most people. The owner/breeder had planned on shooting them, but she was allowed to willfully surrender them. The situation was one of the worst Julie had ever seen, and the rescue itself seemed impossible to carry out at times. Many of the tiny dogs were so feral and afraid that they bit and thrashed and screamed at the end of the catchpoles. Working in the heat and filth caused many rescuers to become ill. Newborn pups were found under boards near their mother, who was eating a dead bird. One fragile, terrified little Pom's fur was matted so badly that a frog was living in it. Julie and the sheriff were absolutely horrified by the sights and smells of that day.

We get a huge kick out of Henry Knox. Because he was a bit shy when he came to us, we roomed him with Emily Geiger, another of the weed patch poms who is quite outgoing. Henry Knox has found these living arrangements to be quite enjoyable. He has discovered that he very much appreciates letting a woman control his life. Emily runs the show and he happily lets her. He has become less timid and likes now to sit in our laps and listen to our conversations. He watches Emily and the other little dogs zip and zoom and thinks they are quite frankly, a bit silly. Being the strong and silent type, Henry doesn't have much use for such frivolous behavior. He prefers to wait on the sidelines until that Emily thinks up something that she needs him to do. Henry and Emily are not so bonded that they must be adopted together, but they sure do make a funny couple. Henry gets along with all the other little dogs and really just needs a warm, safe home and a devoted heart.

His Buddy, Virginia Kass, from Mankato, MN, sent him this message: "Henry, your beautiful dark eyes look very curious about everything going on around you, and when you find your forever home, I know your adventurous side will blossom! Enjoy all your HUA friends, and soon you'll have a fabulous home!" Henry sends Virginia many playful little cuddles and lots of very grateful kisses!
His Buddy, Renee Arakawa, from Lake Elsinor, CA, sent him this message: "Henry, you are so handsome and I'm sorry for the terrible treatment you received before you came to HUA. I wish we could adopt you, but we already have 4 other rescues. So until you find your forever home, we would love to be your buddy! Love Renee" Henry Knox sends Renee and her four sweeties many happy, grateful hugs and kisses.

Thanks for Visiting Our Animals!

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested. If you are interested in adopting a dog, we can give you more information on each dog if you click the Adoption Info & Application link above. Buddies are people who support the dog and send them love while they are waiting for their new home. The dog does not live with the buddy.
