Homeward bound-adopted!

Now living happily in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Late one cold afternoon in March, a man and his son pulled up to the front doors of the shelter. In his arms, the son carried a tiny, whimpering puppy with a gash on his head and a hacking cough. The son and his friends were headed home in the early morning hours and heard a strange keening coming from a ditch on the side of the road. There they found this puppy, freezing cold and clearly very sick. An HUA volunteer rushed the puppy to the Animal Emergency Clinic in Omaha an hour away. The puppy was crying and hacking and the only thing that calmed him down was listening to music in the car. Hence, he became Kid Rock. Tiny Kid was examined and found to have a severe respiratory infection. Worse yet, he had injuries consistent with having been thrown out of a moving vehicle. The deep gash on his head, combined with a BROKEN JAW, told the story. Because of the location of the break at the TM joint surgery wasn't an option, his jaw was taped shut in the hopes that the bones could heal properly. Kid had to be fed through a syringe for a month, and it was difficult for him to breathe through only his nose. Throughout the entire ordeal, this little firecracker showed us that if any dog could beat the odds, it was Kid Rock. He wanted to play so badly. He wanted to gulp down a big bowl of food rather than sipping through a syringe. He wanted to romp with his friends and act like a puppy. Kid Rock has opinions and he let us know that he was not happy with his current situation. After a month, he was re-checked at the vet and miraculously, his jaw was completely healed! That awful tape came off and we've never seen such a party! Kid Rock has a heroic spirit and such a zest for life. He is so full of joy and energy and curiosity. He can't get enough of the good life and each day is a reason to get up and go. We are blessed to have known this boy. We are so pleased that he has made a full recovery - we don't know how he did it, but WOW! was it an amazing adventure! Our best guess on Kid's breed is Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier mix. Whatever he is, he is cute as a button and full of kisses and hugs.

Thanks for Visiting Our Animals!

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested. If you are interested in adopting a dog, we can give you more information on each dog if you click the Adoption Info & Application link above. Buddies are people who support the dog and send them love while they are waiting for their new home. The dog does not live with the buddy.
