Homeward bound-adopted!

Now living happily in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

We will never, ever forget the day our beloved baby boy Obie came into the shelter. He was a tiny puppy with the disposition of a grumpy old man. Obie had demodectic mange, a condition so itchy and so painful that it was robbing him of his puppyhood. He lived in a home, with people who knew how sick and hurt he was, but refused to get him the help he so desperately needed. They dropped him off to us, bleeding and oozing, scratching and weeping, stinking and shouting from the pain. He snarled and thrashed at anyone that tried to help him, and he broke our hearts. After weeks of smelly, medicinal baths and ouchy shots, Obie figured that there had to be a method to our madness and he calmed down as he started to feel better. He was so in need of love and so badly needed to trust us that we let him have full roam of the office. He has since made friends with every new dog that came through our door and convinced them that this is a GREAT PLACE to live. Obie is now the life of the party, a tiny playboy who may never forget his horrifying past but is looking toward the bright future with stars in his eyes and squeaky toys in his mouth.

Thanks for Visiting Our Animals!

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested. If you are interested in adopting a dog, we can give you more information on each dog if you click the Adoption Info & Application link above. Buddies are people who support the dog and send them love while they are waiting for their new home. The dog does not live with the buddy.
