Homeward Bound - Adopted!

Now living happily in Beatrice, Nebraska

On January 29, 2014, HUA rescued 45 dogs from a puppy mill in South Dakota. Some of the dogs went to other groups and the majority of them (about 30) came to HUA. HUA has been working with this particular mill on downsizing and we are pleased to announce that this mill is now shut down!

Because of these collaborative efforts, another 45 dogs are now free. Of the group, only 3 of them are males. All others are females. Puppies were also released. A few three-month-old Japanese Chin pups and four six-week-old pups are in the group. What does all this mean? Female dogs are not needed at the mill for breeding because puppies aren't selling. Efforts in educating the public are working and we must continue to let people know about puppy mills and their connection to pet stores, newspaper ads, internet ads, etc.

Roca is a Dakota Darling, and darling she is. She is a sweet, gentle, quiet little Poodle girl who is happy to let the others go wild around her. She loves being with people and the other dogs, and will sit nicely and wait her turn for treats and laps. She's not much into the toy scene and prefers to just hang back and enjoy the ruckus from afar. Like most Poodles, Roca is a devoted little thing and grateful for all she receives. We think she is perfect in every way.
Buddy Messages (1)
Her Buddies, Chuck and Lynette Mohr, from Lowell, MA, sent her this message: "Roca, we saw your picture and fell in love! You remind us so much of our sweet Abby! We know you'll be scooped up by a wonderful family soon, and we'll be your Buddies until then. Keep smiling, little sweetie!" Roca sends Chuck and Lynette oodles of very happy kisses and many grateful cuddles!

Thanks for Visiting Our Animals!

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested. If you are interested in adopting a dog, we can give you more information on each dog if you click the Adoption Info & Application link above. Buddies are people who support the dog and send them love while they are waiting for their new home. The dog does not live with the buddy.
