Cookie Monster lived at a daycare center where he was terrorized by young children. He did not care for the constant attention of children who were not careful with him. When he came to the shelter he was very afraid and let people know that he did not want to be touched. After just a few days in the more quiet environment of the dog shelter, where people speak to him nicely and treat him gently, he became a different dog with the people he knows well. He is so grateful for a nice quiet place where people care how he feels, and what he wants. He adores most people now and is happy and friendly. He also likes to play now too. Because Cookie still may be unpredictable around children he is staying at the sanctuary forever, which makes him very happy!
Sanctuary Sweethearts

Hearts United for Animals is dedicated to the philosophy that all dogs deserve happy healthy lives with people who love them. Some dogs find that home with us as Sanctuary Sweethearts. They are animals who are not up for adoption for various reasons including health, age and personality issues.

The Sanctuary Sweethearts live full, comfortable, happy lives at Hearts United. It costs about 25 dollars a month to care for these special needs dogs (and to keep them in frisbees and balls!) The Sweetheart Program allows people to sponsor one of the animals living at the Shelter. We will send you a photo and information about the dog you are sponsoring and will update you on their lives during the year. You can stop your donation at any time.

These are some of the dogs who live at the Shelter as Sanctuary Sweethearts. You can sponsor a Sanctuary Sweetheart by clicking here. The cost is twenty-five dollars a month.

Thanks for Visiting Our Animals!

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested. If you are interested in adopting a dog, we can give you more information on each dog if you click the Adoption Info & Application link above. Buddies are people who support the dog and send them love while they are waiting for their new home. The dog does not live with the buddy.
