Female

We humans here at HUA try very, very hard to be unselfish in all situations. But sometimes, we collectively fall head over heels in love with a very special dog and we may hesitate just a teeny tiny bit to put said special dog on our website. You see, we don't want to ever let them go. But because we are unselfish, we are presenting Shayla for adoption. If her photos aren't already making you weep, wait until you hear about her.

Shayla was found as a stray and brought to the pound in Kansas. When she tested postive for heartworms, HUA was contacted and we readily agreed to take over her care. This little girl is the most precious of all creatures. She is sweeter than sweet should be. She adores all of us as much as we adore her. She is quiet and gentle and trusting and loving. She wants nothing more than love and a lap. She was a perfect angel during her treatment and although she is still testing a mild positive, the vet thinks she has no active worms left. It will be important to have her tested in another 6 months to ensure that is the case. Shayla is now ready for her forever people, however much it breaks our hearts to say good-bye..
Buddy Messages (1)
Her Buddy, Barbara Taylor, from Exeter, NH, sent her this message: "Hi Shalya, Although I didn't see you in time, like the wonderful people at HUA I fell in love with you! Such a tiny little girl, but filled with so much love, and even with your tiny size, you seem to fit so much love into such a tiny body. It's horrible that you had to conquer the awful Heart Worm disease, but you have so much love in your body, that you just had to do it. Although I don't know much about the treatment for Heart Worm disease, I do know that the treatment can be awful, but you didn't let it beat you. Seeing how much love you carry in such a tiny body (mine are Standards, so you'd be puppy-size as a Standard), I couldn't resist not being your buddy, and I hope that with all the love you show and inspire in the wonderful people at HUA, will help you find a Forever Home very soon! I am surprised that you hadn't found a Buddy before now, so I wanted to fill that void, and be your buddy!" Shayla is thrilled that Barbara chose her and sends oodles of love and kisses to Barbara and her doxie family!

Thanks for Visiting Our Animals!

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested. If you are interested in adopting a dog, we can give you more information on each dog if you click the Adoption Info & Application link above. Buddies are people who support the dog and send them love while they are waiting for their new home. The dog does not live with the buddy.
