Homeward Bound - Adopted!

Now living happily in Calgary, Alberta (Canada)

This adorable little rag-a-muffin was a very sad boy when he first came to the shelter. His family had suffered severe financial devastation and could no longer take care of this precious boy. That first day was not a good one for Smitty. He was confused and sad and waited for his people to return. We were heartbroken watching the little guy suffer. We tried to comfort him and show him a good time, but he was having none of it. Smitty is too taken with people to suffer for too long though, and his cheery nature soon got the best of him. Although it can still take a few minutes for him to completely warm up, once he does it's all fun and games. Smitty loves to play and loves to be cuddled. During play time he bounces about and uses his growly voice to tell us he's having a great time. We think he's a riot. Smitty has some allergy issues that we've been able to resolve with special baths and medicine. He is thrilled to be feeling so fine and making the best of his visit until his forever family comes to pick him up.
Buddy Messages (2)
His Buddy, Winifred Murphy, from Baltimore, MD, sent him this message: "Hi Smitty! You are so cute! I'm sure your personality matches your handsome face! I'm sure HUA is taking great care of you! I would give you a wonderful home if I could! Hang in there!" Smitty sends Winifred many grateful kisses and cuddles, and some very happy tail wags, as well!
His Buddies, The Nichols Family, from Orlando, FL, sent him this message: "Smitty, you have such a mischievous face we are sure you will find a new forever home soon with a family that will love and take care of you...but until that time, you can count on us. Your furry friends from Orlando, Fl -- Sargent Pepper and Paislee -- and the people who love them -- Dale and Maggie" Smitty sends special doggie kisses to Paislee and Sargent Pepper and many grateful hugs to Maggie and Dale!

Thanks for Visiting Our Animals!

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested. If you are interested in adopting a dog, we can give you more information on each dog if you click the Adoption Info & Application link above. Buddies are people who support the dog and send them love while they are waiting for their new home. The dog does not live with the buddy.
