Wendell's story is just so sad. He once had a family and a home, until the house burned down to the ground. As if that is not horrific enough, he was left in the burned down house for six weeks before his owner finally brought him to the shelter. When the poor little guy first arrived at HUA, he was upset and very displaced. We can't imagine how confused he was, wondering what had happened to his home and what he had done to make his family leave him here. We took gentle care with Wendell and soon began to see some signs that he was going to be just fine. He has since come around to adoring the people here and has the best time with his room-mates. He loves his long walks, recess time, and the days when the volunteers take him out to the yards with his buddies. Wendell's eyes sometimes give him a little trouble. The eye specialist said he has Chronic Cornea Discoloration. Wendell worried when he heard those big words, but we assured him it was no big deal. He does not need medicine as long as his new vet checks him regularly. Other than that small bump in the road, Wendell has been a healthy, happy, silly little boy who would do anything in the world to score a new family.
Buddy Messages (1)
His Buddy, Christie and Steven Kuhlman, from Chester, NE, sent him this message: "Wendell, You are such a happy boy! We hope you find a forever home soon! Love, Christie and Steven Kuhlmann" Wendell hopes so, too, and sends Christie and Steven many very happy kisses, joyful tail wags and grateful hugs!

Thanks for Visiting Our Animals!

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested. If you are interested in adopting a dog, we can give you more information on each dog if you click the Adoption Info & Application link above. Buddies are people who support the dog and send them love while they are waiting for their new home. The dog does not live with the buddy.
