HOMEWARD BOUND - ADOPTED - now living happily in Omaha, NE!
Ray and his brothers, Ronnie and Stevie, were found as babies stranded on a beach in the mountains of Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. It was discovered shortly thereafter that all three puppies were blind, in all likelihood due to a genetic mishap. Second Chance Animal Rescue of Puerto Rico took these sweet boys in and gave them everything they needed in order to ensure that they would be able to safely navigate their world. They were blessed with a Great Dane nanny to watch over them and keep these mischievious pups out of trouble. The dire situation of homeless dogs in Puerto Rico made it unlikely that Ray and his brothers would be adopted on the island, and the decision was made to fly them to HUA. This trio has captured the hearts of everyone they have met. At one of the HUA on-campus foster homes they have learned that nice manners and calm behavior result in scrumptious treats. It would seem like an easy task for a dog to take a treat from a caregiver's hand; however, this was not a natural thing for these young boys to do. To see these cherubs respond to reward and and behave as nicely as they do has been amazing. All three are so affectionate and love human contact. Much time is spent out in the yards rumbling and tumbling with sheer joy. Ray is shorter and stockier than his brothers, with a gorgeous shiny black coat--a very handsome lad indeed. We think he always looks like he is ready to go out on the town. His manners are superb. People remark all the time that, like his brothers, it is difficult to tell that Ray is blind. Ray promises to behave like a perfect gentleman in his new home. He cannot wait to be part of a family for the first time in his life.
