Twila is not just lovely but sweet as they come, despite her rough beginnings. She grew up on a farm as an outside dog with very little human interaction. People had abandoned the place, and HUA staff members had to return several times in order to convince Twila and her friends that they were welcome at the shelter. At first, Twila was a tough nut to crack. She was very afraid of people and refused to make eye contact. We kept her in the main building near the office and the laundry area to get her used to us, but she remained stand-offish for quite some time. She allowed us to speak softly to her and to gently pet her, but she did not welcome attention. Then one day, Twila decided that she loved us and all the other nice folks that came to meet her. She is such a good girl and even conquered house breaking. It took her a bit to learn the leash but now she is a champ at it and adores roaming the big yards with the volunteers. This brave and beautiful lady has decided to live life to the fullest and enjoy every day. Her next big step will be a home of her own, which she will cherish with all of her heart.
