We could not save the number of dogs that we do or have such an incredible effect on the lives of animals everywhere if it were not for you. You make this work possible. You are the Hearts of Hearts United for Animals.
We blog about fundraising and campaigns, adoptions, donations, shutting down puppy mills, spaying and neutering, Jetset Dogs, Sanctuary Sweethearts, 911 emergency assistance and rescue, Tia's Place, Legacy of Love, pet memorials, and education.
On Friday January 22nd, at the request of authorities, Hearts United for Animals rescued 5 adult Chihuahuas Yorkie mixes and 4 tiny Chihuahua Yorkie mix puppies from an illegal breeding operation just 15 miles from the HUA shelter. The puppies are only 8 weeks old. Their mother is very tiny herself, not much bigger than her babies. She should never have been bred. The home was such a filthy wreck that social services had been called. It started from a tip from people who saw posts online of prior litters of pups that were urine scalded, had holes in their paws and were
emaciated. Later reports indicated that some of those pups who were sold had parvo. Of course the breeder always wanted to meet people in parking lots. Nobody was ever welcome in the home.
Mom and babies are doing very well at HUA, but are being watched carefully for signs of illness. The poor mom dog is so tiny and skinny, but all are eating well and happy to be together.
This case is a good example of why people should not purchase puppies online. It only encourages breeders like this who keep the dogs in filthy conditions and have no regard for the animals whatsoever to continue doing it for a fast buck. Craigslist and online swap groups are rampant with these advertisements. These are the precious little lives that they buy, sell and trade like used junk. Fortunately for these dogs, they made it out alive and into the care of HUA, and the person will not be allowed to continue to breed dogs.
