We could not save the number of dogs that we do or have such an incredible effect on the lives of animals everywhere if it were not for you. You make this work possible. You are the Hearts of Hearts United for Animals.

CubbyGumbyCubby was found motherless at only five weeks old.  He is one of many puppies who have been

recently dumped in the frigid cold Bottineau region of North Dakota along the Canadian border.  They all have had mange and are very malnourished.  Cubby was taken in by a family who realized when he was unable to walk that they could not care for his extensive needs, so they took him to animal control where he would have been euthanized if it weren't for a kind rescuer, Jackie.  Jackie took Cubby into her home and posted pleas for help.  Sadly, mange is the least of Cubby's problems.  All four of his legs are misshapen.  His bones are very soft and not forming correctly.  Cubby suffered malnutrition to such an extent that it effected his growth.

Cubby arrvied in Omaha with a kind Delta flight attendant who brought this precious baby to meet Hearts United for Animals representatives.cubby's deformed back legs  He was even such a good boy on the flight that he got two sets of Delta wings!  Veterinary specialists reviewed Cubby's case when he arrived and have determined that he needs time to grow and get stronger before further action is taken.  His joints are deformed and he is wobbly when he walks, quite often wiping out when he gets going.    He is an amazing little guy with such spunk and a will to get big and strong.  He is making good progress, so we are hopeful.  He is at HUA now and being given everything he needs to help him thrive.  He will have more mange treatments and re-evaluation of his progress in two months.  There are some rare neurological conditions that could cause this, but the most likely suspect is malnutrition in which case he will not have perfectly normal legs but will likely regain function enough to have sufficient mobility.  He is eating high quality food and exercising daily to keep building up his strength.

If you would like to help Cubby please click to donate online and write 'for Cubby' in the comment section of the donation form.  If you would like to send him well wishes we will read them to him to encourage him during his daily exercises.  It is a particularly good time to donate because the dogs at HUA are trying very hard to meet their fundraising contest goal of $100,000 by year end.  If they meet their goal a generous supporter will donate three brand new astroturf play yards so that guys like Cubby can walk with plush grass under their paws year round, rather than the rock yards they have now.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generous contributions that make these ever so important missions of mercy possible.
