Poodle | Born: Apr 29, 2000 | Weight: 12 lbs. | Gender: Female
Dessa was rescued from one of the worst puppy mills in Iowa. She was covered in feces when we rescued her and was so frightened of humans that she vomited and sat stiff as a board while she trembled constantly. Her progress is slow, but she is a little less fearful each day. We can tell she appreciates her soft blankets, good food and the gentle ways of the HUA staff and volunteers. She adores her doggie roomates and finds much comfort in their presence. It calms her to have a dog companion with her. We will continue to take things slowly with Dessa and win her trust. After 6 years of abuse it won't come easy, but we are steadfastly determined that she know peace and love. When you see that puppy in the window think of Dessa, she may be the mother. Dessa is a female Poodle. She was born 04/29/00 and weighs 11.6 pounds.
Her Buddy, Elizabeth Dunn, from Pepperell, Massachusetts, sent her this message: "Dolly, SweetPea, JoJo, Pansy and our foster sister Jackee (Poodles too!) wish you much love and pray that you find a forever home soon." Dessa sends Elizabeth and her sweet Poodle crew many happy, grateful Poodle girl kisses.
Her Buddies, Dick and Marilyn Duxbury, from Lincoln, Nebraska, sent her this message: "Our Nikki is a black dog and she wants to help another. We hope that you recover soon dear Dessa. We would love to meet you." Dessa sends Dick, Marilyn and Nikki many happy, grateful kisses and invites them to come visit any time.

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested. If you are interested in adopting a dog, we can give you more information on each dog if you click the Adoption Info & Application link above. Buddies are people who support the dog and send them love while they are waiting for their new home. The dog does not live with the buddy.
