Meet The Parents of Pet Store Puppies

HUA rescued many Chihuahuas, Boston Terriers and and mixes from hideous conditions at an unlicensed breeding facility in Iowa. The person who owned the property was selling puppies to local pet stores for $50 each. Many of the parents have tested heartworm positive, and one is dead. They were so thickly covered in fleas that they were solid black. Some of the dogs were running loose because their enclosures had collapsed, while others hung suspended from the ceiling in wire cages. HUA also took in 15 dogs from a Nebraska mill. We received a call stating that if we did not arrive that afternoon the dogs would be killed with a shotgun. They were no longer proving useful to the breeder, he wanted them gone immediately, and he didn't care how. In Iowa we took note of a rifle sitting on top of the wire cages hung from the ceiling. When we arrived there were not as many dogs as we were told there would be.
