Brown Sugar is a most gorgeous creature with a lost soul. She was born in a puppy mill in Wyoming and has not ever forgotten nor quite forgiven the humans that tortured her for the first several years of her life. We have spent many months trying to convince her that THESE humans here are good and kind and that we love her. We can see in her eyes that she does so want to believe these things and she is slowly making strides toward trust. She knows now that we will never, ever hurt her and she has made some wonderful dog friends here at HUA. It will take a kind, understanding, patient person to fully bring Brown Sugar to know the sheer happiness that all dogs deserve. We think she will do best in a home with another dog to show her the way and to prove to her that there is comfort and fun to be had.

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. Hearts United for Animals does long distance adoptions if there are safe flights and we have volunteers in the area to do a home visit. We require an application, references and a home visit to adopt one of our dogs. Our dogs are all spayed or neutered and are current on health care. We can cat test a dog if requested. If you are interested in adopting a dog, we can give you more information on each dog if you click the Adoption Info & Application link above. Buddies are people who support the dog and send them love while they are waiting for their new home. The dog does not live with the buddy.
