Now living happily in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Calamity Jane is one really amazing dog. She is so very sweet and gentle. She loves humans and loves her dog pals. Her person fell ill and could no longer care for her. She was given away to friend of the family who let her roam on an acreage with no fence. Unfortunately Calamity Jane got bored and wandered several miles down the road to a farm that had chickens. HUA received a call from the farmer saying we had one hour to get there or he would shoot her for coming near his chickens! We implored him to put the gun down and told him we would be right there. When Janie arrived she was covered in mud, ticks and chicken droppings and had an open wound on her neck from the chain he used to tie her to a fence. But she was happy as can be and jumped in the car without hesitation. Janie appreciates her new home at HUA and happily greets us with a big, goofy smile every day. She is one dog who just completely captures your heart from the moment you see her big brown hopeful eyes. This gentle senior lady would love to have a home of her own again with people who will care for her always and keep her safe. We realize at her age that might not happen, and if not she will be welcome to stay with us forever. But we hope that someone will look at Janie for the love she has to give and not the years she has left.
