Winnie and Pooh were born in Galveston, Texas in a drug infested area. They were starved, kicked and beaten. They were set up on cars and knocked of onto the ground time and time again. They were rescued by HUA supporters who called and asked whether we could take them. Of course.
We were not prepared for what we saw when they came in. They were all bones, ill, and had flea bites all over their bodies. And they were so scared.
Winnie is a yellow lab mix. She's quite a character. She grabs all the treats and buries them in her bedding. She does not have a mean bone in her body despite all of the suffering that she has endured.
When Pooh came to us he was very frightened. It took months to reach him and convince him that he was safe and would never be hurt again. The malnutrition caused him to be very unsteady on his feet. Then he developed a terrible case of demodectic mange (the inherited kind). We were not sure he would live. But Pooh survived and now he's the kindest, gentlest, happiest boy you could ever meet.
