This special guy ended up at a small humane society in Texas. Chief is an interesting character. When he spent some time in foster care prior to coming to Nebraska he was aloof, independent, confused and uncivilized. It did not appear that he had ever been in a home or received any training at all. He did not understand a leash and did not want to spend time indoors. He was fine with humans and other dogs, but Chief just knew nothing--not joy, not fear, not comfort, not play. He surprised everyone by garnishing up a big old streak of energy when he broke loose at the airport where he was to board his flight. Nobody could catch the big stinker. His foster mom was finally able to capture him and everyone heaved a huge sigh of relief. At HUA Chief is learning lots of things. He is doing well on his leash training and although he still LOVES being outdoors (the snow is his happy place) he is also enjoying the comforts of indoor living. He is a little bit timid when he meets a new person but once he trusts someone he is full of adoration and loves being affectionate. There are many thoughts as to what Chief's breed is--the top guesses are Maremma Sheepdog, Kuvasz and Great Pyrenees mix. All we know for sure is that he is gorgeous and sweet, and he deserves the best home in the world. Chief will need a large, fenced-in yard to ensure his safety and happiness. A human that is home most of the time would be best as he has a lot to learn yet.
